Plastic stronger than steel

Could homes of the future be made of plastic? MIT scientists have invented a plastic they claim is twice as strong as steel, and could one day be used as a building material.

Named 2DPA-1, the material is light and mouldable like plastic but has a strength and resistance that the researchers liken to steel or bulletproof glass. Because of its unique molecular structure, it is also impermeable to water and gases, offering a high degree of protection from oxidation, rust or rot.
