With reports this week that the city of New York is sinking due to the weight of its skyscrapers, the dream of one architect to build ‘treescrapers’ possibly can’t come quickly enough.
Vincent Callebaut Architectures has been exploring the future of high-density living as a cluster of climate-responsive, biomimetic, vertical green villages.
“To build sustainably and with common sense is to stop destroying and, even, to know how not to build, but to regenerate, metamorphose, reconvert, rehabilitate, renovate, enlarge, and give new life to the ‘already there’”, Callebaut said, explaining his motivations.
