Leaving a huge boulder in place to divide the living room and main bedroom of his house was all part of the brief for mid-20th century Californian architect Albert Frey.
Frey designed his home to sit in harmony with the desert, including glass walls that not only allowed panoramic views of the Coachella Valley, but blurred boundaries between inside and out. He also reportedly spent a year observing the passage of the sun before building the house, to ensure optimum seasonal sunshine or shade.
