What’s your favourite Australian native tree? This week (13-21 August) is also National Science Week and to celebrate, ABC Science has been running a poll to find out which is Australia’s number one most-loved tree.
After more than 100,000 votes in the first round, the trees have been pruned down to the top 20 and the second round of voting is underway. Many of them are gum trees, such as the ghost gum, gungurru, karri, mountain ash, red flowering gum, river red gum (pictured), snow gum and Sydney red gum.
The gloriously-spreading Moreton Bay fig, golden wattle and Illawarra flame tree have also made it to the next round.
On Friday, August 19, the list will be cut for one final time — and everyone gets to vote again on the top ten trees. Visit the ABC website (abc.net.au) to have your say.
