Engineers at MIT announced this week they have found a way to make stronger concrete using coffee grounds, claiming that not only would the new concrete be more robust, but it would greatly reduce waste going to landfill.
Australia currently generates 75 million kilograms of ground coffee waste every year, with most of it going to landfill. What’s more, the grounds would be used to replace a portion of the sand traditionally used to make concrete, reducing demand on a finite natural resource.
