Some homeowners in the eastern states this week might have wished they had built a ‘float house’ – a house designed to float 12 feet (3.6m) above its foundation in the event of rising waters.
Part of the ‘Make it Right’ project instigated after Hurricane Katrina, the house was designed by Morphosis Architects to sustain its own water and power needs, while its base could act as a raft and stay afloat vertically on steel guideposts.
