An increasing number of communities are suffering the consequences of natural disasters, wars or other humanitarian crises, forcing them to leave their homes to stay indefinitely in refugee camps.
Acting on their belief that we should be designing homes rather than temporary shelters, and creating communities instead of camps for displaced communities, the Norman Foster Foundation recently showcased their Essential Homes Research Project, with a real-sized house at the 2023 Venice Biennale. The building is low-carbon, energy-efficient and circular, demonstrating that sustainable building can be possible for all.
