Until recently, unwanted rugs, carpets and offcuts have invariably ended up in landfill. But in November 2021, a new venture called TRAKS was launched to move the textile industry into a circular economy.
Developed by Textile Recyclers Australia (TRA), and Karie Soehardi Consultancy (KS), the first program will collect, sort and process discarded rugs from consumers and businesses with the support of participating rug companies.
A second trial will involve textiles businesses returning offcuts or surplus materials from products such as curtains and sofas for recycling.
