An air-conditioning system that needs no power to run sounds like a dream, but in reality, the ‘Nave’ is winning awards.
Drawing from Egyptian architecture and traditional Palestinian cooling systems, designer Yael Issacharov created Nave to operate on an irrigation system. When water is poured into the hollow inner part, it moves through the terracotta walls, evaporates, and is transformed into water vapour by the heat of the air. This reaction absorbs heat from the surrounding air, cooling the water, the material itself, and thus the air in the room.
