This Friday (27th September) is the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, and since Australians waste the equivalent of 24 burgers for each person every week, this could be a good time to take stock.
Check the pantry and fridge, throwing leftovers, rotting food and out-of-date products into a tub and note any produce that could be used in the next few days. Make a decision to try leaving a night or two each week to eat or repurpose leftovers, store food correctly, and get creative to use food you already have – by reducing food waste, your household could save up to $2,500 a year.
